Perfect Vanilla Cupcake



– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 teaspoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
– 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
– 2 eggs
– 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
– 1 cup buttermilk


1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two cupcake pans with paper liners.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.

4. Gradually beat in the dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk.

5. Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with the batter and bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
